While the 28th edition of L'Etrange Festival was held last September in Paris with "record-breaking attendance" some fifty prominent film professionals sent an open letter to the CNC on Thursday, December 8, in which they said they were "deeply astonished" that the Center, "despite its recent attachment to genre cinema, does not support in any way" the event.
"In these worrying times for the 7th art, it is a real happiness coupled with a great hope to attend crowded screenings, to see rooms filled with an eclectic and joyful public, ever more eager for promises and curiosities," write the signatories, who evoke a "crucial" festival which "deserves to celebrate its thirtieth edition under the best auspices."
Signatures include those of Jacques Audiard, Monica Bellucci, Béatrice Dalle, Albert Dupontel, Vincent Maraval, Gaspar Noé, Sylvie Pialat and Vincent Paul-Boncour.
