Italo Bettiol: death of the creator of the animated series "Chapi Chapo"

Italian-born director Italo Bettiol, stop motion specialist and creator of the animated series Chapi Chapo, which became legendary in the 1970s, died on Wednesday, December 28 at the age of 96 at his home in Aniane, in the Hérault.

The series featured a blue boy and a pink girl wearing giant hats, with their universe populated by magic cubes and the famed credits by François de Roubaix. Their stories (60 5-minute episodes) appeared on the ORTF on October 16, 1974 and were "broadcast all over the world," as far as the United States on the Pinwheel show on Nickelodeon, the Magic company, who represent the rights of Chapi Chapo, stated in a press release. He also created Pépin la Bulle, first broadcast in the late 1960s.
