Arcom and the Court of Cassation are organizing a symposium on "freedom of expression and the digital age" on Friday, February 10. After the introductory remarks by Christophe Soulard, first President of the Court of Cassation, a first round table, from 9.15 a.m. to 9.45 a.m., will be devoted to "freedom of expression in the case law of the Court of Cassation," with the participation of Basile Ader (moderator), Lawyer at the Paris bar, specialist in media law, Delphine Chauchis, President of the 17th chamber of the Paris court, and Philippe Dary, Adviser to the criminal chamber of the Court of Cassation.
Freedom of expression in the light of new modes of communication” will be discussed (9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.), with the participation of Jean-Michel Sommer (moderator), President of the social chamber of the Court of Cassation, Thibault Guiroy, Director of Institutional Relations and Public Policy at YouTube France, Benoît Loutrel, Member of the Arcom college, President of the working group "Supervision of online platforms," and Shaden Shabayek, Postdoctoral Researcher at Université Paris-Saclay and Associate Researcher at the Sciences Po medialab.

A speech by Roch-Olivier Maistre, President of Arcom, is scheduled for 11 a.m. It will be followed by a third round table, on "freedom of expression in times of crisis (war, attacks, pandemic)," with the participation of Laurence Pécaut-Rivolier (moderator), Member of the Arcom college appointed by the first president of the Court of Cassation, Laurent Cordonier, Doctor of social sciences, Director of Research at the Descartes Foundation, Christine Maugüé, Deputy President of the litigation section of the State Council, and Catherine Nayl, Journalist, Director of Information at France Inter.

Cycle of conferences on the regulation of digital platforms
In addition, the Court of Cassation is organizing this year a cycle of conferences from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. around the question "What regulation for digital platforms?" During the introductory session, Thursday, February 9, the “international aspects of platform law” will be discussed in particular.
The following session on Thursday, April 13, will be devoted to the theme “platforms and competition law.” The exchange, moderated by Anne-Cécile Martin, Lecturer at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord (Paris 13), will bring together Antoine Babinet, Member of the DG Competition and of the "Digital Markets Act Task Force" of the European Commission, Emmanuelle Claudel, Professor at Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris 2), Irène Luc, Vice-President of the Competition Authority, Paul-Emmanuel Piel, Head of the "Media, Electronic Communications, Cultural Sector, Economy of Data" office at DGCCRF, and Pierre Rebeyrol, Head of the "Trade and Commercial Relations" office at DGCCRF.

The symposiums and conferences organized by the Court of Cassation, within its "grand'chambre," are broadcast live and then accessible later on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and its website.
